The pace of previews for the 2009 Frankfurt motor show gathers pace. Today it’s the turn of Volvo to show off its new, gently facelifted-for-2009 C30. The Swedes are trying to ‘sport up’ the C30, so there’s fresh front and rear styling, in line with the revised C70 and taking its inspiration from the S60 concept car.
No, the Mercedes Benz SLS Gullwing (which we all thought was going to be called the Mercedes SLC – but we were wrong!) is not showing at Geneva 2009. But that hasn’t stopped Mercedes from doing a bit of a spoiler for the show on the day before press day by releasing testing images of a disguised car, together with some solid information, instead of all the speculation we’ve been indulging in. Mercedes Benz SLS AMG in a UK Car showroom near you - but not until 2010!

The Vauxhall Corsa – and, for that matter, the Opel Corsa – has been revealed as the most economical car ever built by GM Europe after a series of tweaks has cut its already impressive fuel consumption. The Corsa 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX Start-Stop )which, fortunately, isn’t emblazoned on the boot lid in full) can now squeeze 85.6 miles out of every gallon of diesel, which means emissions drop to just 88g/km. Vauxhall has had yet another play with their 1.3 litre diesel and fitted a variable displacement oil pump that delivered pressure to suit the load, had a tweak with the Corsa’s brain and filled low-viscosity oil in the gearbox The result is in improvement of 7 per cent in economy over the current Corsa.
